A pair of well-known local restaurateurs are set to open their newest eatery in the Speed Art Museum next week.
Adrienne and Kris Cole, the husband-and-wife owners of the House of Marigold on Shelbyville Road, will open est. 1927 by Marigold on Aug. 21, according to a release sent to Louisville Business First. The new restaurant takes the place of Wiltshire at the Speed, which shuttered its location inside the museum at the end of last year.
The new 46-seat café will offer many lunch and brunch favorites found at House of Marigold, many featuring locally sourced farm-to-table ingredients. Highlights include banana pudding, build-your-own deviled eggs, cornbread, biscuits and avocado toast.
“Given the widespread love for the Speed, our aim was to contribute to elevating and fostering its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere,” Adrienne Cole said in a release .“Our hope is for guests to not only to visit the Museum but to extend their stay with a great café experience. I like to say, ‘come for the art but stay for the food.’”
The arrangement also cements the Cole’s catering company, Marigold Catering Co., as the official caterer of the Speed Art Museum. According to the release, Marigold has already catered roughly 75 events for the museum since taking over the contract seven months ago. The company is one of Louisville’s largest caterers by meals served offsite in 2023, according to Louisville Business First research.
Adrienne and Kris Cole opened House of Marigold in March of last year. The restaurant quickly became known for its elegant and modern interior design and “Instagrammable” menu items. Earlier this month EBONY magazine recognized House of Marigold as one of its 45 favorite Black-owned restaurants in the United States, while earlier this year Southern Living called it the best new restaurant in Kentucky.
